I chose these panelists because as a Festival Producer I find these particular methods inspiring and effective. I did notice. They are going to tell you about what they do, how they do it and why and that it isn’t always easy, but it really takes you a long way in your career and helps you to stand out from the crowd.

ABOUT THE SHOWCASES AND EVENTS :.

showcase options

What folk conference would be complete without showcases? SWRFA 2009 gives you a variety of opportunities to show the world what you got.

official showcases

The official showcases are presented each night in the main ballroom and you must register to apply for these much sought-after slots. There is a very limited number of these slots available and the competition is stiff but your best exposure to those who count is securing an official showcase slot. If you are selected as an official showcase artist, you will need to return to the shopping cart to pay the fee that helps to offset the costs of the showcase. Click here to download your official showcase application.

guerilla in-room showcases

These after hours showcases are the heart and soul of the conference. Indie labels, publishers and different regional groups host these showcases that go into the wee hours and give writers not just an opportunity to perform their material but a great chance to network with other players and see what they are up to.

If you would like to host an in-room showcase, just let us know when you register. Cost for hosting an in-room showcase is $25.

afternoon pool party

Claude "Butch" Morgan returns again to host one of the most popular showcases/open mics of the conference.  Join us poolside as Butch rolls out brief performances from those who signed up in time.  Slots are on a first come-first serve basis and you signup for your slot at the registration desk.

annual song assignment

One of the most popular (and entertaining) projects of the conference is to pickup your song assignment at check in and then at brunch on Sunday, perform your newly penned masterpiece for the other attendees.  Many of the song submissions are hilarious and participants have been known to have to catch their breath after a round of side-splitting laughter. Pick up your song assignment, and leave one for anther participant when you check in.

There is more than one way to skin cats and get showcases. The savvy participant will work it hard to get as much showcase and open mic time as possible.
